他们坐在一起看韩剧。她起身。
他：「干吗去？」
她：「去接杯水。」
他：「你坐这看吧。我去给你接。」

女人要求不高，她对男人唯一的要求就是「疼她」，
你可以什么都没有，只要你疼她，她就有足够的勇气把自己的下半辈子交给你..

【 A 】
他晚上下班。给她打电话，
他：「宝贝儿。我晚上和朋友出去吃饭。」
她：「你不是答应我陪我逛街的吗？」
他：「改天吧！」

她默默地流泪.. 为什么每次都是这样？

【 B 】
他下班的时候打电话给她:
他：「亲爱的，别人给我一张奥运会的票。巴西队啊！一会儿我去看
球了啊。」
她：「哦。这样啊，好吧。」
他：「怎么不高兴了？」
她：「你忘了，上周说好今天我朋友和她男朋友请我俩吃饭啊。」

他：「哎呀，对不起亲爱的.. 我忘记了.. 那我把票给别人吧，我陪你去吃饭。」
她：「不要了，吃饭可以改天，或者你先去看，我们等你。」
他：「那不行，答应你的事情必须得做到。再说你自己跟他俩在一起
像电灯泡似的，你肯定不舒服啊.. 」
她：「没事的..」

没等她说完，他很强势的告诉她，
他：「好了，听我的，你收拾一下，我一会儿去接你..」

其实女人不是不懂事，只是她需要碰上一个懂事的男人，
其实情侣之间是可以互相的..

【 A 】
他：「我晚上出去吃饭了啊。」
她：「几点回家？」
他：「九点之前肯定回家。」
九点半，
她：「你怎么还不回来啊？」
他：「十点，肯定回家。」

十一点，十二点，一点，两点..
后来，她不再打电话催他..
因为她知道，对于不守承诺的男人，一切「肯定」都是「未必」..

【 B 】
他：「我晚上出去吃饭。九点之前肯定结束。然后我俩去看电影。」
她：「你能那么快就结束吗？」
他：「放心吧。我答应你了就一定能！」
快到九点的时候。他：「收拾一下吧，我马上就到你家了！」

信任，
是在一件一件小事中建立起来的..

【 A 】
她生理期，身体不舒服。顶着疼痛洗衣服，收拾屋子。
他坐在电脑前面玩网络游戏..

她干完活，躺在床上，长出了一口气。
他看了她一眼：「宝贝儿，辛苦了！」
然后转过头，继续玩他的游戏..

【 B 】
她生理期，很难受，起身准备洗衣服。
他拽住她：「你去床上躺着，我来！」
她：「你会做家务吗？你自己洗过衣服吗？」
他：「不会做可以学着做啊，以后你身体不舒服的时候，我当然得独挡一面！」

女人需要的不只是甜言蜜语，哄她几句，她也许会给你一个微笑..
但是实实在在的呵护，她会对你一辈子的感恩，
并且会回报给你一个温暖的家..

【 A 】
她给他拿了一包榛子，然后她去洗衣服。
回来的时候，榛子已经被他吃得所剩无几。

【 B 】
她拿给他一包榛子，然后自己去收拾屋子。
回来的时候，她看见电脑前面放了一堆剥好的榛子仁。

女人很感性..
她炫耀你对她的体贴，就好像炫耀克拉钻一样。
这么廉价的买卖，用一点心思就能收获无比的财富..

【 A 】
他说：「你是最好的..」
她问：「我哪好？」
他：「学历高、能力强、长得漂亮、身材又好，对我又这么好..」
她笑了..

【 B 】
他：「你是我所遇到最好的女孩儿..」
她：「我哪好？」
他：「你对身边的每个人都很友善、很无私，对人对生活总是很感恩，一个人有一颗善良的心，会让周围的人感觉到温暖，你是我见过最善良的女孩儿，伤害你的人都应该下地狱..！」

她哭了..
一个人，是因为你对他好，所以觉得你好..
一个人，是因为懂得你的好，所以想要对你好..

Got home from work which ended @ 0030 hours... I feel so bad, seriously. Damage was caused by the team, hope it doesn't affect LC much or any at all. I can't do anything anyway even if it does, but i'll really feel worse if he kena henta kaki for a couple of years just because of this. i don't know, really... It's not a big damage anyway, shall see how it goes...waiting for decision.

一次一次的失言，让人难以再相信伱的解说。毕竟，发生的不再是一两会儿的事。婚前时，拆穿了也容忍了，承诺你也给了。我们相处了六年之久，可你所谓的承诺不足以让你在婚后靠岸，反而选择了留在海洋中漂流。漂着漂着，找着了别的港口靠了上去。也就把说过答应过的的全给忘了。

每个女人都有一个公主梦，每个梦里都有一个骑着白马的王子，有些人在等，有些在等的途中累了，便顺手拽住公主和王子路过的马尾巴上，她以自己能坐到白马上，然后用力的爱，哪怕自己被马尾拖倒在地，她以为自己爱的足够让王子放弃马背上的女人。

当你真的坐到白马上的时候，你已经累了，累的已经没有足够的爱去满足王子，他在放弃另外一个女人的时候，自己的感情和责任也随之而去，女人对他而言只是形式，不再是有感情的物件。

如果为了钱可以选择做第三者或情人，你拥有的越多你的世界就会越来越小，甚至连自己站的地方都是问题，钱是可以改变一切，包括你的快乐和女人一辈子的归宿，可是当你拥有这些的时候，必定会失去自己不值得失去的东西。

现在发现我的心理有点问题，我一不小心爱上了爸爸的好朋友我叫叔叔的人。当然最初是那叔叔告诉我他对我有好感，当时我傻了，那天彻底失眠。其实我被触动了，但考虑到他有家我不可以，我们两家的关系不可以。

有很多不可以的理由。所以控制自己的情感…可是时间长了我还是没有控制住自己，我坦白了，那叔叔很欣慰的面对我的坦白，后来我背着父母跟叔叔有了暧昧关系。我很开朗平时嘻哈哈，所以这种关系别人觉察不到（包括我的父母）他妻子平时对我不错，当然他对妻子好，他妻子不怀疑他，更不会怀疑到我。别人看来他把我当女儿或侄女，这样的环境适合他与我相处。猛然清醒我己成为第三者，我不知所措，有点离不开他了，我不要破坏现状，离开他现在感觉做不到，现在不知道怎么办。

yea, it's OVER!!!! & here comes the damn econ again. 2 items for next month's hafla, chingay's in feb... busy with rehearsals & stuff, but it's screaming the word FUNNNNN!!!! LOTSA FUN!!!! oh i can't wait for the hafla... my gawd!!! and the costume set costs me $120 (for now), cause i'm getting another lining skirt from Mehmet, and also some additional works for the bra and the belt...heheh~ but i freaking LOVE the colour of the set and the design.. ^_^

micky was saying that she wanna join the residents'-something-performance item on 11 Feb for her RC zone or something, but have yet to talk to yuki about it. maybe we should prolly ask Angelina on Mon for her advice? *shrugs* BUT, this event is 1 day after my econ exam... *sigh*

Men ( not all, some or even just a minority percentage), i noticed, become more attractive when they age. For a man to be classified under 'Alpha', it does take years of experience in the working society. But, not all men will be of that stage for their lives. No matter how one practices to be an Alpha male, it will not be as natural as the true-blue Alphas; those that had attained a high level of confidence, charisma, maturity level through the years, which you rarely could find in the younger ones.

I was told by a friend yesterday, that he's able to differentiate women for being single or married just by looking how we walk. I'm so intrigued by that, seriously!! 3rd class of samba today... it's so much fun!! prolly due to such a dramatic instructor... hahah!! next week will be e last lesson of level 1, am going up to level 2 the week after. *grins*

will be so busy wth work, sch and current dance class with BDD and new class with Groove School.. superbly happy about it. at least, i'm able to get things off my mind when i'm busy or doing some stuff i'm so in love with. =) i've been postponing my dance classes for 10 years... reminded by my instructor she started learning @ Mandarin Hotel from our director... 10 LONG YEARS!! can't imagine it's that fast!!! and NO WAY i'm gonna let my dance wait for me again!!!

Belly dance, you're my next target.. after my groupon with Groove Sch *winks*

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning

The new captain jumped from the deck, fully dressed, and sprinted through the water. A former lifeguard, he kept his eyes on his victim as he headed straight for the couple swimming between their anchored sportfisher and the beach. “I think he thinks you’re drowning,” the husband said to his wife. They had been splashing each other and she had screamed but now they were just standing, neck-deep on the sand bar. “We’re fine, what is he doing?” she asked, a little annoyed. “We’re fine!” the husband yelled, waving him off, but his captain kept swimming hard. ”Move!” he barked as he sprinted between the stunned owners. Directly behind them, not ten feet away, their nine-year-old daughter was drowning. Safely above the surface in the arms of the captain, she burst into tears, “Daddy!”

How did this captain know – from fifty feet away – what the father couldn’t recognize from just ten? Drowning is not the violent, splashing, call for help that most people expect. The captain was trained to recognize drowning by experts and years of experience. The father, on the other hand, had learned what drowning looks like by watching television. If you spend time on or near the water (hint: that’s all of us) then you should make sure that you and your crew knows what to look for whenever people enter the water. Until she cried a tearful, “Daddy,” she hadn’t made a sound. As a former Coast Guard rescue swimmer, I wasn’t surprised at all by this story. Drowning is almost always a deceptively quiet event. The waving, splashing, and yelling that dramatic conditioning (television) prepares us to look for, is rarely seen in real life.

The Instinctive Drowning Response – so named by Francesco A. Pia, Ph.D., is what people do to avoid actual or perceived suffocation in the water. And it does not look like most people expect. There is very little splashing, no waving, and no yelling or calls for help of any kind. To get an idea of just how quiet and undramatic from the surface drowning can be, consider this: It is the number two cause of accidental death in children, age 15 and under (just behind vehicle accidents) – of the approximately 750 children who will drown next year, about 375 of them will do so within 25 yards of a parent or other adult. In ten percent of those drownings, the adult will actually watch them do it, having no idea it is happening (source: CDC). Drowning does not look like drowning – Dr. Pia, in an article in the Coast Guard’s On Scene Magazine, described the instinctive drowning response like this:

1.Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are physiologically unable to call out for help. The respiratory system was designed for breathing. Speech is the secondary or overlaid function. Breathing must be fulfilled, before speech occurs.

2.Drowning people’s mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water. The mouths of drowning people are not above the surface of the water long enough for them to exhale, inhale, and call out for help. When the drowning people’s mouths are above the surface, they exhale and inhale quickly as their mouths start to sink below the surface of the water.

3.Drowning people cannot wave for help. Nature instinctively forces them to extend their arms laterally and press down on the water’s surface. Pressing down on the surface of the water, permits drowning people to leverage their bodies so they can lift their mouths out of the water to breathe.

4.Throughout the Instinctive Drowning Response, drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements. Physiologically, drowning people who are struggling on the surface of the water cannot stop drowning and perform voluntary movements such as waving for help, moving toward a rescuer, or reaching out for a piece of rescue equipment.

5.From beginning to end of the Instinctive Drowning Response people’s bodies remain upright in the water, with no evidence of a supporting kick. Unless rescued by a trained lifeguard, these drowning people can only struggle on the surface of the water from 20 to 60 seconds before submersion occurs.

This doesn’t mean that a person that is yelling for help and thrashing isn’t in real trouble – they are experiencing aquatic distress. Not always present before the instinctive drowning response, aquatic distress doesn’t last long – but unlike true drowning, these victims can still assist in their own rescue. They can grab lifelines, throw rings, etc.

Look for these other signs of drowning when persons are in the water:
- Head low in the water, mouth at water level
- Head tilted back with mouth open
- Eyes glassy and empty, unable to focus
- Eyes closed
- Hair over forehead or eyes
- Not using legs – Vertical
- Hyperventilating or gasping
- Trying to swim in a particular direction but not making headway
- Trying to roll over on the back
- Appear to be climbing an invisible ladder.

So if a crew member falls overboard and everything looks OK – don’t be too sure. Sometimes the most common indication that someone is drowning is that they don’t look like they’re drowning. They may just look like they are treading water and looking up at the deck. One way to be sure? Ask them, “Are you alright?” If they can answer at all – they probably are. If they return a blank stare, you may have less than 30 seconds to get to them. And parents – children playing in the water make noise. When they get quiet, you get to them and find out why.

PAP returns to power with reduced mandate

As expected, the PAP won the 2011 general election though with a reduced mandate.

Though the PAP swept 81 out of 87 seats, its share of the popular vote slipped to 60.14 percent from 66.6 percent at the last election in 2006, its worst result since independence.

It also lost a GRC, and along with it 2 ministers and a potential Speaker of Parliament, for the first time since the system was introduced in 1988.

The Workers’ Party emerges as the strongest opposition party in Singapore, winning Aljunied GRC by a comfortable margin and increasing its percentage of votes in Hougang SMC.

The three NCMP seats are likely to go to Ms Lina Chiam (SPP), Mr Yee Jenn Jong (WP) and one candidate from WP’s losing team in East Coast GRC.

The biggest loser appears to be the Singapore People’s Party which lost all its contested seats, including Potong Pasir SMC and Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.

The Singapore Democratic Party saw its percentage of votes improve, but was unable to win Holland-Bukit Timah GRC with its ‘A’ team polling a respectable 39.9 percent of the votes.

In spite fielding the largest slate of candidates among opposition parties, the National Solidarity Party lost all of them including Tampines GRC which was helmed by the unpopular PAP Housing Minister Mah Bow Tan.

The other parties all performed dismally including the newly formed Reform Party which was plagued by bitter in-fighting a few weeks before the election.

Despite optimism among netizens that a political tsunami may arrived, the PAP continues to maintain a stranglehold on power, retaining its two-third majority which will enable it to pass any bills and laws as and when it wishes.

The results of the election show that parties do have an impact on voters’ choices. The Workers’ Party managed to win at least 40 percent of the votes in all the seats it contested even with weak teams as compared to the other opposition parties.

As predicted earlier, the impact of the new media is limited though it may rise in future elections. Though the PAP has won the election, it has clearly weakened and the loss of a GRC may pave the way for more changes to come in Singapore’s new political landscape.

Out on the streets, Steve Owen is running the same race -- physically pounding the pavements to draw attention to the problem of drug-resistant infections.

Owen's father Donald died four years ago of multiple organ failure in a British hospital. He had checked in for a knee operation. But what he got was methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, commonly known as MRSA, a so-called "superbug" that all the drugs his doctors prescribed couldn't beat. After almost 18 months of severe pain, the infection got into his blood, overpowered his vital organs and killed him.

Owen and his wife Jules have pledged to run 12 big races in as many months, to raise funds for a charity that is working to fight MRSA. "It just shouldn't have happened," says Jules, as the pair nurse their own aching limbs after running a half-marathon. "It was his knee -- that's not something he should have died from."

Now, though, we may be running out of road. MRSA alone is estimated to kill around 19,000 people every year in the United States -- far more than HIV and AIDS -- and a similar number in Europe. Other drug-resistant superbugs are spreading. Cases of often fatal "extensively drug resistant" tuberculosis have mushroomed over the past few years. A new wave of "super superbugs" with a mutation called NDM 1, which first emerged in India, has now turned up all over the world, from Britain to New Zealand.

NDM 1 is what's growing on the plates that Livermore holds in his gloved hands. "You can't win against evolution," says the scientist, who spends his days tracking the emergence of superbugs in a national reference laboratory at Britain's Health Protection Agency. "All you can seek to do is to stay a jump ahead."

That's not happening now for a number of reasons. For a start, antibiotics are everywhere, giving bacteria countless opportunities to evolve escape routes. The drugs can be picked up, without prescription, for pennies in countries like Thailand, India and parts of Latin America. Even though their use is controlled in the west, the system encourages doctors to shoot the bugs first and ask questions later. Perhaps most worryingly, the world's top drug companies, faced with decreasing returns and ever more expensive and difficult science, have not only slowed their efforts to develop new antibiotics but have been quitting the field in droves.

Today, only two large companies - GlaxoSmithKline Plc and AstraZeneca Plc -- still have strong and active antibiotic research and development programs, according to the Infectious Diseases Society of America. Back in 1990, there were nearly 20.

That could have a profound impact on how we treat our sick. "If some of the most potent multi-resistant strains that we see now accumulate, then modern medicine -- from transplants to cancer treatment and even quite straightforward gut surgery, potentially becomes untenable," says Livermore. "You need the ability to treat infections in vulnerable patients. Lose that and a swathe of modern medicine becomes unstable."

Are we about to start going backwards, to a pre-antibiotic era in which things like hip replacements, chemotherapy and intensive care are simply impossible? It's a big enough fear for the World Health Organization to devote this year's World Health Day on April 7 to antimicrobial resistance in a bid to safeguard these drugs for future generations.

"Modern medicine can't function without effective antibiotics," says Derek Butler, chairman of the MRSA Action UK charity for which the Owens are raising money. "If we lose these magic bullets, medicine will be set back over 80 years.

RAT ON THE WARD

One aspect of the race against bugs has changed little since Fleming's time, or Florence Nightingale's before that. Hospital hygiene is the basic, unglamorous and underpaid work that forms the vital first-line of defense against pathogens. If it is done properly, it can ease the demand for drugs in the first place. Yet Steve Owen remembers his dad telling him he'd seen a rat running through his ward - a shock in a developed world hospital.

Bugs are no respecters of age. Donald Owen was 82 when the treatment for his knee problems ended up killing him. Susan Fallon's daughter Sammie was just 17 when she was admitted with flu-like symptoms to another British hospital in April 2008. Pretty, petite -- at only five feet tall she was "like a little doll", her mother says -- Sammie dreamed of being a professional photographer. When her hospital blood tests came back with worrying results, doctors ordered more, including a bone marrow biopsy. That led to a diagnosis of a rare blood disorder which required chemotherapy. She also picked up a superbug. Just over a month later, before any treatment had a chance to work, Sammie was dead.

The experience left her mother bereft, angry and with a fear of hospitals and the people who work in them. "I don't know which one came in without washing their hands and gave this bug to Sammie," she says. "But if I went into hospital now I'd be saying 'Wash your hands before you come near me' -- I'd be really vigilant."

In developed nations, a big push to improve hospital hygiene is starting to keep MRSA in check. At the same time, cheap international travel is breaking down the geographical barriers to infection. Medical progress is accelerating in places like India, China and Brazil, but often more swiftly than basic infection control in hospitals, Livermore says. "It's sexier to say you can do a kidney transplant, but it's not so sexy that infection control nurses go around and berate people for not washing their hands. And yet it may well be that the infection control nurse would save more lives than the renal surgeon."

The fact that the latest superbug -- NDM 1 stands for New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase, an enzyme that gives bacteria multidrug resistance -- first emerged in India comes as little surprise to many microbiologists. Use of antibiotics is rampant and unregulated in a country with appalling sanitation, high rates of diarrheal disease and overcrowding -- ideal conditions for resistance to develop. A week-long course of antibiotics can cost as little as 30 or 40 U.S. cents from one of the thousands of chemist shops that all too often dispense poor advice along with their non-prescription drugs.

On top of this, even in the developed world, the antibiotics used today are "broad" products, whose blunderbuss approach can kill a wide range of bugs but also trigger knock-on problems. One reason for this is that for the first 48 hours, patients are effectively treated blind while lab staff go through the process of growing a culture sample to see just which microbe is to blame. In particular, Clostridium difficile infection has become a significant problem in hospitals because such broad-spectrum antibiotics damage gut flora, which creates an environment for it to flourish.

MEET THE FAMILY

Antibiotic-resistant bugs like MRSA and C. difficile tend to be picked up by patients in hospitals, but the risks are far broader than a hospital stay. Take the story of the 100 or so Swedes who went traveling to different parts of the world and were tracked by scientists to see what bugs they brought home. Of the eight who went to India, seven -- that's 88 percent -- came back with bacteria in their guts that were resistant to a whole class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. Not one of the people in the study had been in a doctor's clinic or hospital while they were there -- indicating the superbugs they picked up were freely circulating in the community.

What makes the NDM 1 enzyme so dangerous is not only its ability to outflank carbapenems, the most powerful class of antibiotic drugs, but also the company it keeps -- in tough bacteria already resistant to many other antibiotics. Despite being identified only three years ago, it has already been detected in a wide variety of bugs, including many familiar pathogens such as Escherichia coli, or E. coli. In contrast to so-called Gram-positive bacteria, like MRSA, these microscopic enemies are Gram-negative, meaning they have tougher outer membranes which block out many antibiotics, and an unnerving ability to pump out others, making them much harder to take on and beat.

Cases of bacteria producing NDM 1 have now been found and documented in two dozen countries from North America to Europe to New Zealand to China to Kenya.

Livermore's work shows only two or three remaining antibiotics can kill these bugs -- one is toxic, so doctors use it only in extreme cases; the second can't be used to treat urinary tract infections, one of the most common infections caused by E.coli; and the third is not available in many countries and is anyway susceptible to easily developed resistance.

What's more, no new drugs active against NDM 1-producing bacteria have yet reached even the Phase II stage of the three-step pipeline process of clinical trials needed for regulatory approval. That means any new drug to tackle NDM 1 is at least five or six years away.

Even more alarmingly, NDM 1 is no lone threat -- it comes as part of a family. Similar enzymes in the same class, known as carbapenemases, have been detected worldwide. Just this month, the Eurosurveillance journal of the European Center for Diseases Prevention and Control reported that four separate cases of a related strain had been found in Switzerland between May 2009 and November 2010. Three had come from Italy, one from Greece.

That suggests that NDM 1 and its kin are not, in fact, the ultimate "super superbugs" but rather just the tip of the iceberg. The WHO's Mario Raviglione, who is fronting its antimicrobial campaign, is particularly worried about "superbug" forms of tuberculosis -- a disease that earned the nickname of "white plague" during Victorian times in Britain because sufferers' skin tone turned so pale.

TB already kills around 5,000 people a day and cases of multidrug resistant TB are spreading fast, with about 440,000 new patients every year. Until now largely a disease of the marginalized and the poor, it's the sort of infection that mutates and could start killing more widely, regardless of its victims' wealth or home country.

"We're dealing here with a public health emergency of global proportion. If we don't do anything we're just going to see more and more," Raviglione says.

You might think all that adds up to a great business opportunity for the pharmaceuticals industry. But in the past 40 years only two new classes of antibiotics have won marketing approval, while the total number of antibacterial agents approved for sale has dived. Why are the drugs firms so quiet?

CINDERELLA BUSINESS

The European Medicines Agency is easy to miss among the imposing towers of London's Canary Wharf financial district. Yet alongside the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Washington, it is a pivotal gatekeeper to the west's flow of new drugs. Last December, outgoing Executive Director Thomas Lonngren sent invitations to a conference looking back on the watchdog's past decade of achievements, and the great and the good of the pharmaceuticals world turned out en masse.

If they had expected a celebration, they were misguided. Lonngren, a softly spoken Swedish pharmacist, berated the industry for its pitiful record of innovation, arguing that out of the estimated $85 billion spent globally each year on drug research and development, about $60 billion was effectively wasted on dead-end projects. Worse, he said, drug manufacturers were failing to put their research dollars into key areas of unmet medical need.

Nowhere was the shortfall more glaring than in antibiotics.

"We have more or less a gap of five years without research into new antibiotics," Lonngren complained. "It's an issue where commercial consideration doesn't really match the public health need." He went on to warn that, while it was not the job of regulators to tell commercial companies where to invest, they might in future need to advise politicians and the public at large about such research deficiencies.

Across the Atlantic, FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg shares his concerns. "We need new and better drugs - and we need them now. Yet the R&D pipeline is distressingly low," she said in a speech to the National Press Club in Washington in October.

It wasn't always like this. For many years, making antibiotics was a bread-and-butter activity for the drugs industry. Today it has shrunk to a neglected Cinderella business -- complacent about past successes and reflecting the skewed economics that can drive pharmaceutical development.

Martin Mackay, a Scottish microbiologist who has worked for many of the world's top drugmakers and now heads up research at AstraZeneca, is better-placed than most to see the big picture. Back in the late 1970s he was a researcher at Beecham Pharmaceuticals -- now part of GlaxoSmithKline -- when many in the industry were checking off the fight against bacteria in the "Job Done" column. After all, doctors had a wide choice of effective treatments and all the drug companies needed to do was go out and sell them, and let the accounts department tot up the profits.

"Back then, there was a school of thought that said we had cracked the problem of bacterial diseases," Mackay says. "It looked a pretty good picture."

THE SUMS DON'T WORK

Today, it's very hard to make the commercial sums work. The drugs industry has seen dwindling returns on all its R&D in recent years, resulting in a wave of high-profile laboratory closures -- cost-cutting measures that have been cheered by the stock market. The payback on antibiotics has been even more dismal than in other diseases.

There are two main reasons for this. First and foremost antibiotics, when they work, tend to cure people. Patients take small quantities for several days, a few weeks at most. That's not a very attractive revenue flow. By contrast, a patient on a cholesterol-lowering heart medicine will keep using the pills, and contributing to drug industry profits, for the rest of his or her life. Second, even if a new antibiotic is approved for sale, its use is likely to be reserved for serious infections -- once again, minimizing the sales opportunity.

To cap it all, most existing antibiotics have been around for decades and are widely available as cheap generics, setting a very low bar for prices.

"If you are in the business of antibacterials, I think you just have to accept that is the way it is," says Mackay. "Will it be as profitable as a really great cardiovascular drug? Probably not."

So it should be no surprise that while the global market for all prescription drugs grew by more than 40 percent over the last five years, the value of sales of antibiotics shrank to $14.4 billion in 2010 from $16.1 billion in 2005. That figure is projected to fall to $12.0 billion in 2015 as some former blockbusters lose patent protection, according to consensus analyst forecasts compiled by Thomson Reuters Pharma.

Faced with such economic hurdles -- not to mention the daunting scientific difficulties of outwitting fast-mutating superbugs -- a long list of big drug companies have decided to end their antibiotic research, including Roche Holding AG, Bristol-Myers Squibb Co and Eli Lilly & Co.

AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline -- and to a lesser extent Novartis AG, Merck & Co Inc and Pfizer Inc -- remain in the antibiotic space. But scientists like Livermore fear work in drug company labs is being disrupted by the upheaval now sweeping the industry, following a wave of mergers and acquisitions. That's diverting attention from the job at hand: battling the microscopic pathogens that are threatening the practice of modern medicine.

BARRIERS TO ENTRY

But the buck doesn't stop with Big Pharma. Despite urgings from officials at the FDA and its European equivalent for drug companies to do more, many in the industry believe that regulators are actually a large part of the problem.

David Shlaes, a 30-year industry veteran who now works as a consultant, has particularly harsh words for the FDA, accusing it of a "lurch into Neverland as far as antibiotics are concerned" in an open letter to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius in February.

The problem, as critics like Shlaes see it, is the increasingly onerous nature of clinical trials demanded by officialdom before an antibiotic can be approved for sale. Regulators have grown much more cautious about clearing new drugs in recent years: the situation is especially sensitive in the case of antibiotics, following a scandal over Sanofi-Aventis SA's Ketek, which was approved in 2004 but subsequently linked to a risk of liver damage.

The result is a belt-and-braces approach to testing new antibiotics that means experimental antibacterial drugs need more and much larger late-stage clinical studies, throwing up what senior Pfizer research executive Rod MacKenzie says is now the principal obstacle to antibiotic development for the handful of big players still left in the game.

"That's of course where the large bulk of our costs are -- in the late stage of development -- and so that really makes life very difficult," he says.

The pushback isn't just coming from the industry: Livermore is also convinced society needs to adjust its risk dial and make it easier for new antibiotics to win approval if it wants to secure a flow of future drugs. "As a result of seeking the perfect we risk squeezing out the good," he says. "It would introduce more risks -- but the biggest risk, looking forward, is that we are simply not going to get enough new antibiotics."

"PUSH-ME, PULL-YOU"

Experts from science and industry meet often in conferences to ponder the problem. One such get-together in a swanky hotel in central London this month had the catchy title "Superbugs and Superdrugs". Unfortunately, the bacteria right now are proving a lot more "super" than the medicines, the delegates agreed, and many pharmaceutical industry investors are losing their appetite for the fight.

Fixing the system, experts argue, will require a mixture of "push" and "pull" incentives - "push" measures to lower the cost of developing new antibiotics, and "pull" factors to increase the commercial rewards for successful products.

Adjusting the "pull" side of the equation may be the most controversial, since it effectively means offering a form of subsidy to drug companies. But the Infectious Diseases Society of America, which has called for a global commitment to develop 10 new antibiotics by 2020, believes stronger financial incentives are vital. Options include tax breaks, patent extensions or government commitments to buy future drugs. Some academics have also proposed more complex systems that would offer rewards based on how long a new product is on the market before resistance develops. The risk for taxpayers, of course, is that companies end up "gaming" any new reward system -- to the advantage of their shareholders but not necessarily society.

Ultimately, we may simply have to accept that antibiotics should no longer be cheap. Rather, they would become premium-priced products along the lines of targeted cancer therapies, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars a year for each patient. It would be a radical change, and price out many in the developing world, but a high price would, at least, have the advantage of deterring over-use and helping to fund research, particularly in more narrowly targeted drugs.

Changing the business model could also open the door to new approaches to treatment. There's certainly plenty of room for improvement, since the current diagnosis of bacterial infection by growing cultures hasn't changed fundamentally in decades. In the future, scientists hope rapid point-of-care diagnostic tests will allow them to identify their adversaries within hours, making treatment decisions quicker and allowing drug companies to conduct small, focused clinical trials targeting a narrow population group.

All promising ideas, but not much is happening yet. The WHO is working on a six-point plan to target health authorities, doctors and patients. Its main message: superbugs are not just a problem for the old and the sick -- this affects everyone.

Runner Steve Owen is the first to admit he finds the realities of what we face difficult to grasp. He knows that he lost his father because levels of hygiene in the hospital were too low. But why is the pace of drug development so slow? Why can't we do more to fix the problems that killed his dad?

"I've always thought that science would advance and keep up pace with the bugs, not that the bugs would get ahead of the expertise of the scientists," he says. "It's frightening."

Japan Quake May Have Shortened Earth Days, Moved Axis

The March 11, magnitude 9.0 earthquake in Japan may have shortened the length of each Earth day and shifted its axis. But don't worry—you won't notice the difference.

Using a United States Geological Survey estimate for how the fault responsible for the earthquake slipped, research scientist Richard Gross of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., applied a complex model to perform a preliminary theoretical calculation of how the Japan earthquake—the fifth largest since 1900—affected Earth's rotation. His calculations indicate that by changing the distribution of Earth's mass, the Japanese earthquake should have caused Earth to rotate a bit faster, shortening the length of the day by about 1.8 microseconds (a microsecond is one millionth of a second).

The calculations also show the Japan quake should have shifted the position of Earth's figure axis (the axis about which Earth's mass is balanced) by about 17 centimeters (6.5 inches), towards 133 degrees east longitude. Earth's figure axis should not be confused with its north-south axis; they are offset by about 10 meters (about 33 feet). This shift in Earth's figure axis will cause Earth to wobble a bit differently as it rotates, but it will not cause a shift of Earth's axis in space—only external forces such as the gravitational attraction of the sun, moon and planets can do that.

Both calculations will likely change as data on the quake are further refined.

In comparison, following last year's magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile, Gross estimated the Chile quake should have shortened the length of day by about 1.26 microseconds and shifted Earth's figure axis by about 8 centimeters (3 inches). A similar calculation performed after the 2004 magnitude 9.1 Sumatran earthquake revealed it should have shortened the length of day by 6.8 microseconds and shifted Earth's figure axis by about 7 centimeters, or 2.76 inches. How an individual earthquake affects Earth's rotation depends on its size (magnitude), location and the details of how the fault slipped.

Gross said that, in theory, anything that redistributes Earth's mass will change Earth's rotation.

"Earth's rotation changes all the time as a result of not only earthquakes, but also the much larger effects of changes in atmospheric winds and oceanic currents," he said. "Over the course of a year, the length of the day increases and decreases by about a millisecond, or about 550 times larger than the change caused by the Japanese earthquake. The position of Earth's figure axis also changes all the time, by about 1 meter (3.3 feet) over the course of a year, or about six times more than the change that should have been caused by the Japan quake."

Gross said that while we can measure the effects of the atmosphere and ocean on Earth's rotation, the effects of earthquakes, at least up until now, have been too small to measure. The computed change in the length of day caused by earthquakes is much smaller than the accuracy with which scientists can currently measure changes in the length of the day. However, since the position of the figure axis can be measured to an accuracy of about 5 centimeters (2 inches), the estimated 17-centimeter shift in the figure axis from the Japan quake may actually be large enough to observe if scientists can adequately remove the larger effects of the atmosphere and ocean from the Earth rotation measurements. He and other scientists will be investigating this as more data become available.

Gross said the changes in Earth's rotation and figure axis caused by earthquakes should not have any impacts on our daily lives. "These changes in Earth's rotation are perfectly natural and happen all the time," he said. "People shouldn't worry about them."

4 Things Women Should Be Doing in Their Fitness Training—But Aren’t

If your workouts consist of doing light weights and steady-state cardio, you might be in for some bad news: These things alone won’t likely get you the results you’re after, say experts. To increase your fitness level, burn fat, and improve muscle tone, you’ve got to step up your game.

Here are four things women tend to skip that can deliver serious results.

1. High-intensity training.

All that time coasting on the elliptical at a comfortable pace probably hasn’t done much for your body, says Panama-based trainer Belinda Benn, creator of the Breakthrough Physique home fitness system. In fact, the biggest mistake women make in their training is not exercising with enough intensity, she says.

High-intensity interval training, or HIIT, is typically a 10- to 20-minute workout that alternates short, intense bursts of activity with moderate-exertion recovery periods. “High-intensity interval training is the best way to improve your overall fitness, burn fat, and stimulate your hormones for a stronger body,” says Benn.

How to tell if you’re training hard enough? Look to your body for clues, Benn says. Good indicators are sweating, increased heart rate, and lactic acid production (i.e., feeling the “burn”) during exercise. Moderate muscle soreness for up to a few days post-workout is also a good sign. “If you feel nothing,” Benn says, “you probably didn’t work out hard enough.”

2. Heavier lifting.

For most women, a typical weight-training session equals light dumbbell exercises, says Toronto-based strength and conditioning specialist Craig Ballantyne, creator of the Turbulence Training Program. But doing fewer reps with more weight—say, 8 reps per set with a 15-pound dumbbell, instead of 15 reps with an 8-pound one—will burn more fat, he says. Lifting heavier will also increase your strength and muscle definition.

Start by swapping out your normal weights for slightly heavier ones, and gradually work your way up.

3. Upper body workouts.

Women tend to store body fat around the waist, hips, and thighs, so that’s where they typically focus their exercise efforts—neglecting their upper bodies, Benn says.

But you can’t spot-reduce fat, and sticking with what’s easy can stunt your progress, says Benn. Because you may feel weak while attempting pull-ups for the first time, Benn suggests doing the hard stuff at the start of your workout, “when you’re freshest and feeling mentally strong.”

“Focusing on underdeveloped muscles will improve the contours of your body,” Benn says.

4. Training with a barbell.

Think barbells are synonymous with back-breaking chest presses? Not so. “You can do a tremendous workout just with a barbell,” Benn says. “If you’re holding a bar rather than using two separate weights, it forces you to get your body in sync.”

Man jailed for stealing manhole covers

SINGAPORE: A 36-year-old man has been jailed for five weeks after stealing 19 PUB manhole covers worth S$3,800.

By doing this, Abdul Rahim Ramli was also convicted of performing a rash act as he then left gaping holes on road surfaces which endangered the safety of others.

One taxi got stuck in the middle of the road because of his act.

Abdul Rahim pleaded guilty on Thursday to four charges while 16 others were taken into consideration.

Abdul Rahim admitted he stole the manhole covers from places such as Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 and Bedok Ria Crescent in December, last year.

He committed the offences with 37-year-old Juraimy Mohamed Hashim who was also sentenced on Wednesday to five weeks' jail.

The two men drove around the island in a van to steal the manhole covers which were then sold to an unknown China national for about S$200 each.

The court heard that due to the stolen cover at Bedok Ria Crescent, one of the rear wheels of a taxi ended up in an open manhole at around 2pm on December 14. As a result, the vehicle was stuck in the middle of the road.

Even though the taxi was not damaged and nobody was hurt in the incident, the cabby, 56-year-old Tan Thiam Poh, had to fork out S$60 to call for a tow truck to move his vehicle out of the manhole.

The prosecution stressed that missing manhole covers endangered the safety of road users and can damage vehicles.

Those who accidentally fall through the manholes can also be seriously injured.

For stealing the manhole covers, Abdul Rahim could have been jailed up to three years and fined for each charge.

And for performing the rash act, he could have been jailed up to six months and fined a maximum of S$2,500.

Budget 2011: S$90m set aside for children 6 years old & below

SINGAPORE: The government will introduce further measures to help families with children meet their expenses.

A new Child Development Credit scheme will be introduced for all Singaporean children aged six years old and below.

Children born between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2011 are eligible.

Announcing this in his Budget statement, Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said 80 per cent of families will receive S$400 per child.

Meanwhile the remaining 20 per cent, who are better off, will receive S$300 per child.

The money will be paid into the Children Development Accounts and can be used to pay their children's pre-school, childcare and medical expenses.

The Child Development Credit will cost the government about S$90 million and benefit more than 220,000 children aged six years old and below.

The payout will start in July this year.

Notification letters will be sent by June, to parents of eligible children.

The government will also enhance the Kindergarten Financial Assistance Scheme (Kifas) and the Centre-based Financial Assistance Scheme for childcare (CFAC) which currently provide subsidies to lower-income families.

The subsidies will be extended to a larger group of families, including those with up to S$3,500 in gross monthly household income.

Separately, some S$100 million will be pumped into schools for Edusave grants.

Meanwhile, a one-off top-up of S$4.7 million will be put into funds of School Advisory Committees and School Management Committees to help needy Singaporeans students.

There will also be more help for those attending special education schools (SPED).

The MOE Financial Assistance Scheme will also be extended to those from lower-income families.

Mr Tharman said with such a move, SPED students from such families will be fully subsidised for their school fees, uniforms and textbooks.

They will also receive a 75 per cent subsidy on their exam fees.

And to keep higher education affordable, Mr Tharman said undergraduate and diploma bursaries will also increase significantly to benefit students from both lower- and middle-income families.

University students from the bottom one-third of households will benefit from an 80 per cent increase in bursaries, from the current S$1,600 a year to S$2,900 a year.

Mr Tharman said the measures will cost an additional $120 million per year.

Budget 2011: Growth dividends for all adult S'poreans

SINGAPORE: One of the measures from this year's Budget includes payment of growth dividends.

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) said they will give growth dividends to all adult Singaporeans.

As in the past, the amount each Singaporean will receive will depend on his income and value of his home.

Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said 80 per cent of Singaporeans will get S$600 to S$800 in Growth Dividends.

"Those with low incomes and who live in a three-room or smaller HDB flat will get a growth dividend of S$800," said Mr Tharman in his Budget speech.

Meanwhile, "those in the middle-income group and who live in HDB flats and low-value private homes will receive a growth dividend of S$600," he added.

Mr Tharman said he will also give S$300 to those who live in expensive homes but do not have high incomes.

National servicemen and full-time national servicemen, including those below 21 years of age, will receive an additional S$100 in growth dividends.

MOF said the growth dividends will benefit about 2.5 million Singaporeans and will cost the government S$1.5 billion this year.

Singaporeans will receive their growth dividends by May 1 this year.

And to assist with rising utility costs, the government will provide an additional Utilities-Save (U-Save) and Service and Conservancy Charges (S&CC) rebates this year.

This is a top up of the U-Save, S&CC and rental rebates as part of the GST Offset Package introduced in 2007.

"One- and two-room households will get an additional S$170, giving them a total of S$360 in U-Save rebates this year," Mr Tharman said .

"This is equivalent to about five months of their utility bills," he added.

Those in three- and four-room flats will get S$320 and S$340, with five-room and executive flats receiving a little less.

Singaporeans will also receive additional S&CC rebate from this year's Budget.

One- to four-bedroom HDB households will get an extra month of rebate, said MOF.

This translates to three months of S&CC rebates for one-to-two room households, two months for three-and-four room households, and at least one month for larger flats with five-rooms and above.

MOF said the rebates will benefit 800,000 households and will cost the government S$200 million.

Budget 2011: More than S$13b in benefits for S'poreans

SINGAPORE: The Singapore government is giving out more than S$13 billion in benefits to households and businesses - aimed at growing incomes and strengthening society.

Part of this is a S$3.2 billion one-off "Grow and Share" package - announced by Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam when he delivered this year's Budget in Parliament on Friday.

On the back of last year's exceptional economic growth, the Government has also decided to put back into past reserves the S$4 billion drawn out for the Resilience package - introduced to help the country cope with the global financial crisis.

All adult citizens can look forward to Growth Dividends of between S$100 and S$800, depending on their annual income and the value of their homes. NSFs and NSmen also get an additional S$100.

The payout will be given by May 1, benefiting about 2.5 million Singaporeans

There will also be a one-off Special Bonus for those on the Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) Scheme, which pays older low-wage workers who stay employed.

The bonus amounts to 50 per cent more for work done in 2010 and 25 per cent more each year, for work done in 2011 and 2012.

It will be paid out fully in cash, with the first tranche on May 15.

For example, a 55-year-old employee earning S$1,000 a month last year will receive a regular payout of S$2,100 plus S$1,050 for Workfare Special Bonus.

"This is equivalent to getting one month extra pay, on top of the WIS which provides him more than two months' extra pay," said Mr Tharman. Some 400,000 workers stand to benefit from the special bonus.

Self-employed persons who make Medisave contributions will also benefit. They will receive half of their bonus in cash and the other half in their CPF Medisave accounts.

Another S$3.4 billion will go into top-ups for long term social investments to help seniors, needy Singaporeans and to support life-long learning.

Taxpayers will also enjoy a personal income tax rebate of 20 per cent - capped at S$2,000 - for Year of Assessment 2011.

There will also be a more progressive income tax cut. Marginal tax rates will be reduced for the first S$120,000 of chargeable income. This means working Singaporeans will pay less tax - especially if they are middle income earners.

For example, those with chargeable income of S$60,000 will now pay 25 per cent less tax, and save S$650 a year, while those with chargeable income of S$160,000 save a smaller percentage of about 10 per cent.

However, because this group pays higher taxes, they will in fact save about S$1,600.

Those with chargeable income of above S$330,000 will save less than 1 per cent and get a modest S$350.

Mr Tharman said under this more progressive income tax schedule, middle income earners will "enjoy the largest percentage reduction in taxes". The changes will take effect from YA2012 and will cost the government some S$590 million a year.

Other tax changes include the employer CPF contribution rate, which will be raised by 0.5 percentage points to bring the total contribution rate to 36 per cent.

"This is a bonus, but it is not merely incidental to our fiscal policy approach. It is how we share and redistribute the benefits of growth with Singaporeans, while keeping to fiscal discipline. This package of surplus-sharing will also help most of our lower and middle-income households to offset their higher costs of living this year," said Mr Tharman.

The radio and television license fees will also be scrapped.

"I will remove radio and television licence fees permanently...the licence fees are losing their relevance," said Mr Tharman, garnering cheers from the House.

This is effective from January 1 this year and those who have paid the fees will get a refund.

In explaining the move, Mr Tharman said: "The ownership of TVs is no longer limited to the middle and higher income groups. Today, most households including 99 per cent of lower-income households own TVs. Second with increasing media convergence, Singaporeans can now receive broadcast content over the internet and mobile devices which do nor attract licence fees."

In a statement, MediaCorp said as the national broadcaster of Singapore, it "remains committed to produce PSB (Public Service Broadcast) programmes that promote social objectives and national harmony, within the framework of a commercial free-to-air environment. While MediaCorp is required to telecast a fixed number of PSB hours per year across its channels and stations, in reality, the quantum produced exceeds the number of hours mandated by the MDA."

This year's Budget is the last to be delivered before the next General Elections due by February 2012 and in many ways the government has addressed concerns on the ground. For example, the immediate need to help Singaporeans deal with inflation and in the long term, helping to raise the wages of low-income Singaporeans so they can lead a better life.

'Eighth wonder of the world' found under a New Zealand lake

..Wellington, Feb 14 (DPA) New Zealand's first tourist attraction, dubbed the 'eighth wonder of the world' by international travellers in the late 19th century, has been rediscovered 125 years after it was buried by one of the biggest-ever volcanic eruptions.

New Zealand and US scientists said they found the Pink and White Terraces, 60 metres below Lake Rotomahana, 30 km from Rotorua in the heart of the North Island's geothermal region.

The terraces, described at the time as a delicately-coloured fan-like staircase of rock covered with shades of pink and white silica rising like a giant wedding cake from the shores of the lake, disappeared when nearby Mount Tarawera blew up June 10, 1886.

The five-hour eruption split the 1,111-metre-high mountain in two, sending ash and lava over thousands of square kilometres of countryside, completely burying three villages and killing an estimated 153 people. Hundreds fled for their lives as smoke rose 10 km into the air.

Lake Rotomahana ('warm lake' in the Maori tongue) was emptied by the blast, only to be enlarged many times when it refilled, with hot springs bubbling up from up its shoreline and steam issuing from its banks, but with no sign of the largest silica terraces in the world.

Scientists from the state GNS Science organisation and America's Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, said they found the part of the terraces while mapping the floor of the eight-square kilometre lake and investigating its geothermal system.

Sonar images taken by two autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) showed a pink-coloured, crescent-shaped, grimy staircase rising 1-2 metres from the lake floor for about 70 metres.

Project leader Cornel de Ronde, of GNS Science, said: 'The first sonar image gave a hint of a terraced structure so we scanned the area twice more and we are now 95 per cent certain we are seeing the bottom two tiers of the Pink Terraces.'

He said there was no sign of the larger White Terraces, which were either destroyed during the eruption, or are still concealed under thick sediment that the side-scan sonar signal could not penetrate.

'This discovery puts to rest more than a century of speculation as to whether any part of the Pink and White Terraces survived the eruption,' de Ronde said. 'Something that's meant to be gone and that nobody's seen in 125 years. Highlights in a science career don't come any better than this.'

Historian Margaret McClure told the New Zealand Herald that the terraces and their cascading hot pools were the spark for tourism in the country, which now gets 2.5 million foreign visitors a year.

'Back then it was the tourism high point,' she said, attracting tourists from all over the world. 'People said it was like fairyland, or Aladdin's Cave.'

News of the find stunned local Maoris, whose ancestors lived near the terraces and died in the eruption.

Anaru Rangiheuea, an elder of Te Arawa tribe, told Wellington's Dominion Post newspaper: 'For me, it brings back a few tears and a few feelings of my people who were all buried and killed in the aftermath of that eruption.'

De Ronde said the investigation had revealed a 'very, very big' geothermal system under the lake floor, giving rise to speculation that it could be developed for power generation like a nearby field at Wairakei.

But to the Maori people, areas where their ancestors died are 'tapu' (taboo) and should not be disturbed. 'Before we start moving into any economic consideration, we need to get the spiritual aspect of this properly addressed,' said Toby Curtis, chairman of Te Arawa Lakes Trust, which owns the lake floor under an agreement with the government.

Junk food diet linked to lower IQ - study

PARIS (AFP) - – Toddlers who have a diet high in processed foods may have a slightly lower IQ in later life, according to a British study described as the biggest research of its kind.

The conclusion, published on Monday, comes from a long-term investigation into 14,000 people born in western England in 1991 and 1992 whose health and well-being were monitored at the ages of three, four, seven and eight and a half.

Parents of the children were asked to fill out questionnaires that, among other things, detailed the kind of food and drink their children consumed.

Three dietary patterns emerged: one was high in processed fats and sugar; then there was a "traditional" diet high in meat and vegetables; and finally a "health-conscious" diet with lots of salad, fruit and vegetables, pasta and rice.

When the children were eight and a half, their IQ was measured using a standard tool called the Wechsler Intelligence Scale.

Of the 4,000 children for which there were complete data, there was a significant difference in IQ among those who had had the "processed" as opposed to the "health-conscious" diets in early childhood.

The 20 percent of children who ate the most processed food had an average IQ of 101 points, compared with 106 for the 20 percent of children who ate the most "health-conscious" food.

"It's a very small difference, it's not a vast difference," said one of the authors, Pauline Emmett of the School of Social and Community Medicine at the University of Bristol.

"But it does make them less able to cope with education, less able to cope with some of the things in life."

The association between IQ and nutrition is a strongly debated issue because it can be skewed by many factors, including economic and social background.

A middle-class family, for instance, may arguably be more keen (or more financially able) to put a healthier meal on the table, or be pushier about stimulating their child, compared to a poorer household.

Emmett said the team took special care to filter out such confounders.

"We have controlled for maternal education, for maternal social class, age, whether they live in council housing, life events, anything going wrong, the home environment, with books and use of television and things like that," she said.

The size of the study, too, was unprecedented.

"It's a huge sample, it's much much bigger than anything anyone else has done," she said in an interview with AFP.

Emmett said further work was needed to see whether this apparent impact on IQ persisted as the children got older.

Asked why junk food had such an effect, she suggested a diet that was preponderantly processed could lack vital vitamins and elements for cerebral development at a key stage in early childhood.

"A junk food diet is not conducive to good brain development," she said.

The paper appears in the peer-reviewed Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, published by the British Medical Association (BMA).

在《人性》月刊上，坎贝尔说女性并不适合多性伴的性关系。在多性伴的关系中，女性要承受的更多，而男性则处于双赢的局面。比方说，对于女性而言一个即将出生的婴儿将会是一个很大的责任，而男人则可以逃脱这个责任。

托德谢克福表示，对于女性来说一夜情的潜在风险更大，因此并不奇怪研究结果指出一夜情并不那么激动人心反而有点令人沮丧。托德-谢克福是来自佛罗里达大西洋大学的进化心理学学者，他并没有参加本次研究。但是谢克福又表示，从进化学的角度来看多性伴的关系又为女性提供了某种自然优势。

总体上，在一夜情之后女人的感觉比男人更消极，而80%的男性总体上觉得很愉悦。只有54%的女性觉得事后很愉悦。

绝大多数女性在一夜情后都声称感觉自己被利用了，并有诸如“自己很贱”、“很后怕”、“我觉得很抱歉。这样的行为让自己很掉价并且让自己看起来很随便。”之类的想法。

和一般的观点相反，女人并不把随意的性行为看作是长期交往的开始。坎贝尔对《生活科学》说，女人和男人发生一夜情的时候并不是因为女人想让这个男人和她结婚，而是她想让男人明白她通常并不是这样的，今晚的一夜情是她特别为这个男人所做的。

如果对方很有吸引力，男人在一夜情之后会觉得很有成就感，而且男人比女人更能从一夜情中获得性满足。对于一夜情，男人的典型的积极评论包括，极乐、兴奋和激情并认为一夜情有助于释放压力。而女人对一夜情的消极评论则主要是空虚和寂寞。

女人为何尝试一夜情？

即便女性在一夜情之后觉得很糟，但是她们还是会三番五次地发生一夜情。这是为什么？

她们这么做可能在是为自己的后代挑选优质的基因。因此，女人如果不能赢得和具有优质基因，（比如能抵抗疾病或具有某种天赋的基因）的男人的长期关系的话，她的想法会转变为“为什么不和他做一次爱？”

坎贝尔说，如果你遇到的是一个像布拉德-皮特那样既有钱又风流潇洒的男人话，你基本上不可能让他承诺和你共度余生；但是让他在某个周三下午和你在酒店房间发生半个小时关系的可能性却很大。

Met with jx jm, wl @ amk hub on xmas eve's pm... managed to get few things for tun. With blessings, dear drove us to tamp, to meet awl. Got to chalet about 4+pm. We started e bbq pit, which i thought it's pretty early... but anyway, we started munching away... heeheheh~ all e way till after hui was done with her cake-cutting, to avoid party crashing, e 6 of us went downtown east, in search of doing something... in e end, we played CS, tcss till 2+am, when our movie started. watched The Tourist, pretty good, i must say. ^^ Back to chalet about 4+am, started e bit *again*, drank and munchin' away till daybreak *yea, i know it's few hours....*

Swam with kel for few hours before leaving e chalet. got sunburnt, but not as bad as when i was swimming for 10 hours straight. *duhz*

though we've been meeting quite frequently, but it's been a long time since most of us were all together.. (jm preferred his fireworks photo-taking, derrick @ marina bay countdown). it's a simple countdown, yet i really cherish. ^_^ Sometimes, tcss is good enough... lepak-ing... =P

and yea, that's how i spent my 40 hours without sleep. LoLs...

Back to work & school again... but if i may say, nth change at all, even if it's a new year. Life still gotta go on, as usual. In Sg, it getting more and more holiday mood-less. why? it's freaking obvious, don't cha think?

Humans live with numerous faces in their whole lives, by going under the knife, or within them.

It's alright if someone went under the knife several times as whatever within them still remains. For those who live with different faces as a non-physical aspect, the bearer will have to keep up with it. It's tiring, but they chose the path. Nobody asked them to. And no, they can never stop. Once you started, you can't stop. It's not addiction, but if you do stop, all that were said and done will be burnt to ash. You might as well pray that you'll be burnt to ash as well.

But, it's a process how one will look at it with temptation. Yes, nobody will know the actual face of yours, the REAL YOU. All that were shown are merely facades, which can be fabricated as many as you want. You can own different types of lives you want.

For some, somehow, they are in desperate need for it. Like oxygen to life, blood to vampires and demons. It leads unwanted attention away from your real life, life that nobody will have to know about.

To study humans, you can never trust them.

I"m @ KL!! it's been donkey years since my last visit.. =P Just had our dinner @ e hotel's restaurant since they're having a seafood buffet. ^^ David's sleeping now.. he's been awake since yesterday 9+pm just to drove me home after class... Met with his friend (forgot his name... AGAIN.. =.=!!) @ 1+am to start our journey to KL. He's having an engine transplant from 1E to 3E. Unlike changing to 4E, the difference with 3E is pretty minimal, time taken will be shorter compared to 4E.

Drove to Danny's WS 1st thing we got to KL to park our friend's car, sent him to Pasa Rayat since he gotta rush back to SG for a wushu performance. Went to meet Ivan for our car's cruise control. And since Msia doesn't have Honda Civic 1.8 for Manual (they only have auto here), we couldn't get our cruise control done today after being there from 0930hrs to 15++hrs. But no fret since we're only lacking of a relay, we'll have to get back tomorrow to his place to get it done.

Btw, I've got a new laptop Asus U33Jc. Wanted to get U43Jc at first, but it's heavier so i changed my decision instead. ^^ And it's a 8-cell batt life, can keep it running @ top performance for 5 hours non-stop. Unless it's @ power-saving mode, it's a totally different story. ^^

Work & sch life's good and getting better every single second. The best thing of my job? I don't have Monday blues anymore, and everyday is a happy day of working life!! wahahhaha~~

Though the meeting was supposed to be @ 0900hrs on Monday, FOSTA forgotten about it, so was only able to start @ 1100 hrs. I just went to class directly from PB.

Tue's meeting's @ PUB ofc, as usual, till 4 plus.. talked to IE's PMs on some issues, left out my DPM & RE...they rejected my invitation when were asked to join us.. =P

Wed's meeting w TCs @ 1030 & 1400... somehow or rather, 1030's ended faster than expected, ended up walking to taka from ENV, lunch, walked around kino, and back to ENV for 1400 meeting.. =.= i'm pretty ps about the scheduled meeting time arranged by yours truly... =P

Met w LTA officers in e late pm, dinner @ Bugis, & to class. Apparently, someone was "harping" about me being late for class during dinner. =.= i even got the time to wait for my sch's free shuttle service, ogayz? hahahss!! Had porridge for dinner, and e portion is freakin' huge!! i was kinda speechless when i saw it, but glad that i had someone to share it with ^^. It's good, by the way... satisfaction. ^^

here it is, my working days of this week... and next week's packed as well, though it's only 2 days till date...

Just thinking if I'm too independent...seems to me that I no longer know how to rely on others... I was being asked today to share some of my workload. Though I really wanted to, I just don't know how to rely on people anymore. No doubt my work is stressful to a certain extent (which job isn't), but I'm enjoying the stress.... workaholic?? I don't know.... but I do know that it keeps things off my mind when I need e least of 'em.

It's been freaking long since my last flu attack.. and i'm having it now... and it sucks uberly BIG time!!! i thought it's just another attack of my norm rhinitis, but it's not... proven which my nose has been an opening tap since lunch time, after getting caught in the rain... =.=

went to zgg's house yesterday pm... ROFL~ we always go each other's house last min..hahahz.. kel & tun gg were already there like 1 plus, so i told zgg that i'll only be there after she woke up...

Start of a new term, 2 modules... Principles of Biz Mgmt II & Principles of Mrkting & Production Mgmt. For the latter, it's supposed to be one of our former lecturer, Mr Siew, but it got changed somehow.. clash of classes, maybe? Anyway, our new lecturer for that module is so strict.. sign once before going to break, and another one after break... means we can't zao after break!!! shit head... new assignments again~

I went for appt with one of the owners this morning, called kathy jie after that if she's free for coffee... then when i arrived @ TP and waited for like god knows how long, she msged saying no mj kaki is free, asked if tues is free for coffee instead... LoL~ anyway, i didn't leave with no reports from TP.. ^^

was doing some research on my own on humans.. that's abt it, basically. Till now, nth much.. it's about the same as what you'll be able to get from books, authors like Allan & Babara Pease, etc...

I'm getting one of their books, though it's a huge possibility that only Kino has it, as usual...sigh~ Will get it if i'm around Orchard... i've given up hopes on Popular for all the books i wanna get... damn you Popular, you shouldn't even exist in SG if the type of books you're selling is so FREAKIN' LIMITED!!!

Done with my exam for this year... i'm so prepared to re-take my financing & accounts, seriously...

Went out with the girls on Wed straight after our exam, too bad Yada couldn't join us. We had dinner at Khansama Tandoori Restaurant, Upper Serangoon Road (You can find the link under my good food recommendation). It's located along the shophouses, 2nd-storey is air-conditioned whereas the ground floor isn't.
We were at the 2nd-floor, and the atmosphere was relly great with the interior designs and all. We gotta wait a while for the food (it really wasn't that long, but we were all so famished till 1 scond felt like an hour.. :P) and it was so OISHHHHIIIII~~!! We ordered chicken fried rice, 1 garlic & plain naan, tandoori chicken, kebaabs, etc. $51.90 for total amount spent. Fabulously bloated ^^

Met mommy for lunch @ 11am on Thurs, PS.... were deciding between Crystal Jade & Swensen's... went to Swensn's in the end since they were still having their 1-for-1 lunch promo between 11am to 2pm. We both has Wagyu beef, mom's medium-done, mine's medium-rare (as usual :P). Just walked around after lunch, mom bought a top from coldwear for me.. thanks, mom!! Went to HDB hub for meeting after that... ^^ btw, wagyu beef is still e best!!! i love u, wagyu beef!!!

Since my exam's over for this term, celebrated zgg's bday on Fri... treated him to congqing steamboat as a treat for his bday. Was thinking to get him soemthing at first, but back to my own character, food is still the best... Whhahahahha~~ anyway, he picked the place, so i'm fine with it if he's happy cause it's for his bday ^^... Total amt spent for 2pax was about $92... good food. ^^ went to tun gg's house and ton till 8am next day, took cab home.

Went Paulaner with zlg yesterday evening.. it was so crowded even @ 6 plus due to their 11th anniversary. We managed to get a seat inside somehow, thanks to someone who went to e bar counter after their meal... :D:D Kel joined us after his movie as well. Tried Bailey's (seems like they've only got mint chocolate, but it's nice), and and Magerita mango. Maybe shall try Magerita lime next time.. hmmm... and they dont have anything with cherrynade (cherry martini, vodka cherrynade) since it's so rare nowadays. Oh, and kel said vodka raspberry taste like medicine which i'm glad i didn't order... LOLs i'm still trying different alcohol and cocktails.. hahas~

It's really nice to be there once in a while, of course, the company must be good as well.. hahas~ my class's starting next Mon, and no news for the classroom location!!my goodness... maybe i should just call them in Mon...

I've only slept for freaking 2 hours yesterday!!! Was on the bed @ 12mn, toss n turn till don't know what time it was... and the damn headache gotta pound @ my brain... Ero-sennin came back, got him to get me a couple of paracetamol for the pounding. And i still couldn't sleep!!!

Not until it was actually 3+, 4am then i managed to say hello to my lala land... BUT, i got to wake up at 6am!! Bloody heck~ Fortunately, James fetched me to his office from my blk... if not, I'd be running late for sure!!

I wanted to sleep during the journey, but in the end, we chatted along the way till we reached his office. Then, waited for the PROs, Engrs, TO, RTOs to arrive... proceeded to Tuas for meeting, and went back to office again. Checked emails, scheduled appts while waiting for the group to wrap up their tech meeting. Supposedly to join PB for lunch, but went JP with PROs instead since there's limited space in the vehicle.. LOL~ went home straight after that...Met Lucas for a while to deal with policy stuff...

Why can't the time fly instead of crawling.. i seriously can't wait for next week to go Paulaner's...

I'm seriously thinking that this post doesn't really make much sense, since i'm typing it with only 2 hrs of slp...ah, never mind... can't be bothered anyway...meeting mom for lunch tmrw... i'm seriously deprived from slp...

Back from shopping 3 hours ago...went G2000 @ Anchorpoint with hubby. Ahchorpoint is full of factory outlets; G2000, Charles & Keith, Fox outlet & Giordano outlet are some of them. Anyway, i bought 2 shirts& 2 pants from G2000. Total price is... *Drumroll* SGD 174.60 incl. GST charges whereas it's supposed to be SGD236 if bought from normal boutiques @ AMK Hub or Junction 8, etc.

Got to know new friends in my class. Dina is one of them (sorry ladies, my brain is still lacking the cells to remember your names.. :P) Most of us are taking biz mgmt, whereas a couple will be with mass com...

A change of job might be a bad thing, might be good as well. It all depends if the new job has more advancements, more opportunities, a place where you can gain more experience through the stages given to you.

I read from somewhere that it's not a pretty clever thing to post about your work, just in case you future employer might run a check on you online... Well, you'll never know, i guess. I think i'll heed the advice on this, it doesn't hurt anyway. haha~

It's just that i'm back with EPR again after 2 years.. working timings are more flexible, and higher income. The reasons are that simple. Even though it's about the same project, but it's a whole new team. Saw the old team last Wed and they couldn't really recognize me. Said i was slimmer ( i truly hope it's true :X) haha~ Anyway, we're arranging for lunch one of e Wed when i need to go PB for meeting, which is on every Wed.

Oh well, My Saturdays are burnt again... mom in law havin' dinners for all sat evening... there goes my zhu zhu familie gathering till mid jul!!!!

I'm not complaining, i'm just rantin'... :P It's rightfully hers to go out, and i can't complain since she looks after our Little Miss Mischievous in e daytime. But i do feel kinda bad that we got to postpone our outing till Jul as we've decided to go out end of Jun actually, but thanks to me (AGAIN), it got postponed AGAIN. BUT!! my zhu zhu familie are understanding, so i suppose they won't blame me that MUCH... heh... :X

Little Miss Mischievous is still drinking 90-120ml of milk every 3 hours, porridge @ noon & for dinner. She'll push away the milk when she's done, though the bottle might not be empty... i guess we have a lil' picky one here... sigh~
Why is the milk given every 3 hours? Cause she doesn't take any amount more than that, so she gets hungry every 3 hours... =.=

Fri classes are getting worse.. most of e students left the room after signing on e attendance list... i belongs to e minority who stayed behind. yea, though he's not as interesting as our mrkting lecturer, but i'd rather stay since listening to the explanation helps me to understand better than just reading from the book. (though i truly understand why the rest of the class left...)

have been using Eumora bar for 1 month, i think... removed the blackheads on my nose, and most importantly, it also removed the most stubborn whiteheads under my chin!!! Though the whiteheads are not completely gone, but most of them are!!!

Goodbye to toner (since blackheads are gone, the pores seems to be much smaller apparently. And according to research, toner is not & never a MUST. It does not makes your pores smaller as the size cannot be changed.)

Goodbye to moisturiser (my skin doesn't feel dry any more!!)

Goodbye to blackhead/whitehead remover (which doesn't seem to work at all...)

Goodbye to monthly facials!!! (no longer need it every 2 months though i'm still on a package.. hope i'm able to change to ear wax candling)

Considering i'm not using makeup so often, my healing crisis are very minimal.. but if you're using makeup everyday, the healing crisis period might be longer.

Overall, i guess i'll be sticking to it. *thumbs UP*

Time really flies... MMR vac for Sapphira is next week, as well as my last day of work with FLA... i'm joining back with EPR till i graduate from MDIS. Jen just starting postings for recruitment last week even though i've submitted 3 weeks ago.. =.= I guess there'll be a crowd in for interview on Mon since there were so many phone calls last Fri regarding the job opening. There's 1 who is currently working with another agency firm in ML as well, but it's on e 5th floor. I think she'll be coming for interview with higher chance since she's already in e co, just different branches...

I'm still fine with e class schedule. As of now, my classes are on Mon & Fri till end of exam in Aug. After that, i supposed it'll be a superbly tedious schedule.. Most of the term will be 4 time a week, and i've got totally no idea how to get the topic to my mom in law... bless me..

We are back in our hotel room (directly under e club lounge), and we're LEECHING e wifi access from the lounge itself!! MUAHAHAHA!!! Million thanks to the person who invented Wireless-N!! At least we ain't paying for the network service costing RM 53/24 hr.. or RM 20/hr...

Went Genting on Mon till this afternoon after collecting xiao hong frm Danny's. Supposedly to stay @ KL for tonight, but drove down to Malacca instead.. anyway, Zali will be here tonight or tmr since he's got a meeting to attend tmr morning. If he's here tonight, prolly he'll be sleeping with us. Ours a club suite, so there's actually more than enough space for 1 more person to sleep in.. of course there's a door seperating the bedroom from the "living" room. ^^

It's been so long since my last visit to Malacca.. something gd about this hotel, is they've got a Club Lounge for those guests staying @ club rooms and above. Basically, you'll be having breakfast in the lounge instead of squeezing with the rest of the guests from other lower-paying rooms @ the lobby cafe, and you get what u want for breakfast... ie omelette with bacon, cheese, mushroom; or just plain scrambled eggs, etc... What's more, the guests are also entitled to cocktail from 5 to 7.30pm, and dessert & cakes from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, and free internet service from 6am to 12mn (which i'm currently using now as hubby is using his laptop).
The cost? RM 740.50!! but no choice since that's e only room left here and we're kinda tired (or lazy... =P) to get to another hotel, if not we'll already be getting the cheaper club room instead.

just read missjac's entry about the girls.. the craziest will be te 3rd one, dying to get pregnant with her BF whom are with her for less than 1/2 year.. wtf was that? and she's ONLY 17. Seriously, they think it's so cheap to deliver & raise baby... We spent 6+K on the hosp bill size for both me & my girl only! even if she's feeding breastmilk like me, it's a helluva cost of money! diapers are used like tissue papers, esp if e baby's havin' diarrhea. and if you're feeding milk powder, it's like SGD20, 30+ per can for 900gm, i guess, and it can only last prolly even less than 1 mth.
and there are so many things to be sacrificed, ie time & freedom, esp food if breastfeeding. my girl will have diarrhea if i'm having sushi..so i guess no more sushi for me for now till she's able to have higher tolerance for it. Yet, the return is priceless when u see her growing into a healthier kid.

Seriously, it's been such a long time since i've written so much.. i'll be posting pics taken @ grandma's house and stuff for my next entry. and yes, she's still so chubby!!!

Went JB over the weekend to drop danny's cheque, 顺便 service & change exhuast tip for robin's car & did grocery shopping @ Tesco.
Bought their housebrand diapers for day use (around RM9) & baby bath, also Pigeon's bottle liquid cleanser value pack (RM49 for 1 700ml bottle+ 1 700ml refill pack).

Had my eyes checked and bought a pair of transition lens glasses, finally!! They'll courier over to Sg w/o extra charges since it'll take a couple of days for the glasses to be ready. Cost me RM518 (lens + frame package RM468, additional anti-scratch lens RM50), so it's abt SGD217. It's even cheaper compared to Sg, you cant even get the lens alone with that price.

Am still waiting for it to arrive... ^^

went to kimage last fri, did rebond & color to remove the lightened part of my hair. i've been waiting for this since sapphira was born.. had to bear with the length of my fringe till then. well, just treat it as a bday gift for myself, as per each year.. =P

was @ KL over the weekend to pass the rods to danny for xiao hong. there's no way i'm taking any other bus to or fro from msia other than transtar solitaire... the rest of the buses just cant make it at all... they dont keep their words to the passengers, and they dont leave exactly the time they said which was also printed on the ticket, delay & delay... bloody hell...

anyway, will be going to KL sometime next mth to collect xiao hong.. ^^

Just bought medela breast pump from mums&babes yesterday...cost me $699!! vomit blood... comes with medela nipple cream & breast pads, & feeding bib.

Tollyjoy is good as it's small... but i guess i needed something more heavy duty compared to it... so i bought medela's. It's convenient as it comes with a backpack (as shown in the pic), the motor is in it, and it comes with a cooler bag with ice pack, just what i needed for work. ^^ heart pain with such a big hole in my pocket, but i've tried it, and not regretting as i'm able to express more breast milk with this!!! ^^
Since it doesn't come with plug adaptor, I'm selling it with adaptor @ $70, price neg. just drop me an email!! ^^

It's a week since her birth, have done her birth registration last week. Glad that everything's alright though she's premature of 4 weeks. ^^ 2.730kg & 49cm @ birth. Just having slight jaundice but able to discharge together with me on Sun since it's not that serious. Went back for review with the pae on Tue, took blood test. Still having jaundice, but no need to stay for light treatment. ^^

was bleeding again, heavier than the previous ones.. called my gynae and told me to reach there asap, dear sent me there b4 proceeding to pulau ubin for work...

1315hrs
consulted gynae, he said have to operate today since med is no longer working for me anymore. sister kathy called MAH to change my c-section booking from 24 Mar. operating @ 1630hrs, to be there b4 1500hrs. called dear to inform him, he's stuck @ pulau ubin. called pa & mom & wendy to informed them. wendy was laughing as she said that she dreamt of me giving birth just yesterday night.

1515hrs
bathed & packed... dear drove me to MAH... he was escorted back to main island by police coastguard cause no more boat schedule from ubin's obs till late afternoon.

1630hrs
hosp orientation given, hibi-scrubbed my lower abdo for c-section, pushed into waiting area for op...

1710hrs
After epidural, much pushing, and 3 more jab to relieve my pain from all the compressing, squeezing and pushing, she's finally out!! i seriously thought she'd be stuck & there's no way for her to come out through that slit on my tummy... dear said everything was fast, but somehow i still feel that it's taking forever...

She wasn't crying straight away when she pops out and after several attempts to make her cry, Dr Chan had her in the special care. But once in, dear said she was crying so LOUD!! ^^

Was pushed out to my bed after the stitching and wrapping my abdo with a corset, saw mom & dad @ the lounge area... David brought them to see the baby after a while... pa came later after work...

After 6 hours, She's out beside me after confirming that she's able to CRY like a normal baby ^^

it's almost 1 month after CNY... super tired after the 1st day already, didn't even visit biao gu on the 2nd day, not even to uncle loo's house on sat... sigh~ feel so bad...

anyway, my doctor boss has been in the clinic for 2 weeks already, as in Mon & Tue. i'm still trying to get use to his way of work... there're so many drugs for him just because he requested them.. boss is boss lahx... even if exceeded clinic budget limit also have to get him what he wants.

was given mc by dr jen to rest @ home since yesterday afternoon cause of slight bleeding...edd of my baby girl is 4 apr, and she's still in breech position. next appt is 5 mar. dr jen has told us to be prepared for LSCS as there's no way he's delivering breech cause it's very dangerous.. oh well, hope she turns.....

Had my braces up on Monday.. the feeling just sucks after that, my teeth are so sore!! didn't even have the mood to work & eat the next day... sigh~
but i think it's better now... so i guess this will always happen for the 1st week of after the adjusting every month.

At least i've got something to brighten up my mood.. pa's got me zen x-fi 32gb!! muAhaha!! psycho successful!!! but suay suay when i reach home, dear said D drive crashing... ZZZzzzZZZZ~~ idiot.. stupid baka leix... zun zun after buying the player then going to crash, cannot crash after i transfer the songs... but also suan le, since i haven get the screen protector & the leather case cause oos, will be getting them next thurs together with ruth's as the stock has just arrived.

Went for my gynae check on thurs, everything is fine... told the nurse i'm going to MAH for delivery. my appt was at 8.10pm actually, but we reached there @ 7pm purposely.. muahah!! the nurse asked if i've had my dinner, but i said no cause i've got craving for ichiban sushi, thus, is i went for sushi b4 my appt, sure can't make it in time. in the end, i was the 3rd in queue, and i had my sushi!! yummy!!!

dear went to get the nas thing with 4 1TB HDD... -.-"" we're still in the midst of transferring the files from all the current drives to the nas b4 my d drive really died....

Sentosa Getaway

Supposed to go Genting over the weekend to r&r since we were so busy for 1 month wo rest, but fortunately i didn't take leave, if not Cand jie will be oh-so-dead on Sat.. Yeap, i was @ Chang on Sat.

Anywayz, we got to Sentosa after my 1/2 day work @ Chang, checked in to Rasa Sentosa.. The room was at the highest floor facing the sea from e balcony. We went Delifrance for lunch, went for the ludge (which i'm totally not allowed to =P) and skyride combo. The ludge was so much fun, too bad it only last for only a couple of min. We just hang around at the bottom, then took the skyride back up again to our car.

Btw, no longer will there be a musical fountain... instead, Sentosa started a "Songs of the Sea" which is located @ the beach itself, and it's $6.40/pax... and since we've got ours complimentary from the hotel itself for the 8.40pm show, we just went to see how it'd be like. The whole show was about 20-30min, and it was wonderful... but i dont think i'll be watching it 1 more time unless it's complimentary again... =D

Were thinking what to have for dinner after the show but couldn't really make up our mind... settled for the hotel restaurant in the end.. lOlx~ it's expensive, but for the taste & portion served, it's TOTALLY worth it!! will post some pix when i'm free...

Went for the cineblast & 4D combo tix the next afternoon after checked out. as usual, it's one of those things that once is all u need, unless you're out with a different group whom hasn't seen those b4, then i suppose i'll be going for 2nd time IF there's a total new show up.

Went to vivo, had burger meal from Superdog.. and it's super yummy yummy!! Was home after that, and here i am!! gtg now... braces tmr!!

My Wedding Day~!!!

Had my wedding on Sat... tiring day indeed!! Collected all the outfits on xmas day afternoon, had my nails & facial done on Fri... Celine really did a fab job on my nails.. not only i love the designs, even the ladies have excellent comments!! =D

I woke up @ 6am to get ready since my MOA will be here about 7am, the video & photo team were here about 7.30am later...

All of us left the house about 10 plus... i guess they were having too much fun with the "opening door sabotaging"... anyway, We went over to david's house for the tea ceremony, took some photos, and i changed to the chinese kua before going back to my place for the tea ceremony. The morning rush was over, we went back to david's house to wash up, and i'm out again with david's mom to the dinner restaurant for my makeup @ 5pm since the solemnisation was at 7pm. Linda, my MOA, got to the restaurant about 5.30pm but it's my mistake as i've totally fotgotten to inform her which floor i'll be at... -.-" Anyway, she's damn fast with my hair and our makeup, everything was all done at 7.15...

Alas, all was over.. i supposed the food is very nice from the comments given... David was "on high" with 2 huge glasses of mix... hahaha~

We returned the outfits today, supposedly to be done yesterday but we were too dead beat... lOlx~

I'm so glad that everything turned out fine... Juz wanna thanks everyone for the perfect wedding of mine... esp. my MOA, Linda, and my videographer & photographer derrick & guo long. both of them really did a superb job as it was their 1st time working with each other.

Had my wedding photos taken yesterday... i was so so tired!! i'm still tired today... Luckily wedding happens 1 in a lifetime, if not i'll be so dead... i'm starting to have another view of models.. they have to smile and pose for hours and hours, dont know how they did it cause i'm really defeated by only a day's work...

Started my makeup at 10am yesterday, finished @ 11am. My 1st outfit was the kua, the trditional chinese suit for tea ceremony, 2nd one was my evening gown, followed by the wedding gown. After all the studio shots were done (which was already 4 plus in the afternoon), we went out to changi for outdoor scenes. Anyway, my hairstlye was changed for every outfit and lots, i really mean LOTS of hairspray was on my hair for the outdoor shots since my MUA was not going with us and my hair was so very not sticky to where they're supposed to be...

We had several outdoor shoots @ the beach area but it started to rain, so we've got no choice but to go T3 to get the shots done. We were like in the midle of the attention with my carrying that heavy gown around. I even went to the ladies with that on.. hahaha~~ People were saying congratulations, i look beautiful, etc.

It ended about 7 plus, and we got to get back to the studio to return the outfits and stuff. I can't even walk properly cause i'm so dead tired.. lOlx~ i literally drop dead when i got back. I just washed my feet, removed my so-very-thick makeup. i didn't even bother to bathe at all, just laying flat on the bed, and slept all the way... Had trouble washing my hair this morning for work, but luckily my MUA did told me to wash with conditioner (i use hair mask treatment, however) first b4 using the shampoo. It does help alot, but combing my hair was another troublesome thing.. so i just applied some hair cream and just get to work.. I jsut combed my hair @ my workplace.. haha~

i'm going to drop on the bed now... i'm still tired...
